Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Golden State Warriors postponed following ICE shooting in Minneapolis

The NBA has confirmed the postponement of the game between the Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves, originally scheduled for January 24 at Target Center, citing safety concerns in Minneapolis.

In an official statement, the league said: “The National Basketball Association game scheduled for Jan. 24 between the Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves at Target Center has been postponed. The decision was made to prioritize the safety and security of the Minneapolis community.”

While the NBA did not disclose specific reasons, multiple media outlets reported that the postponement followed a shooting incident in Minneapolis. Police Chief Brian O’Hara confirmed that a 37-year-old man was killed in a shooting, marking the third shooting and second fatality in the city this month involving a federal agent.

US President Donald Trump later commented on the situation, sharply criticising local leadership. “The Mayor and the Governor are inciting Insurrection, with their pompous, dangerous, and arrogant rhetoric,” Trump wrote. “Instead, these sanctimonious political fools should be looking for the Billions of Dollars that have been stolen from the people of Minnesota, and the United States of America. LET OUR ICE PATRIOTS DO THEIR JOB!”

The incident comes amid ongoing protests in Minnesota related to the presence of ICE (United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agents. As the Trump administration intensifies immigration enforcement, an increased federal presence has sparked demonstrations and heightened tensions across the state.

On the basketball side, the Timberwolves and Warriors are currently close in the Western Conference standings, sitting seventh and eighth respectively. Minnesota hold the edge with two more wins and one additional game played. A Warriors victory would have boosted their chances of climbing the table.

Golden State continue to be led by Stephen Curry, who was recently named to the Western Conference All-Star team for the 12th time. The veteran guard scored 38 points in a recent loss to the Dallas Mavericks. For Minnesota, Anthony Edwards remains the focal point, fresh off a 55-point performance against the San Antonio Spurs last Saturday.
