Stephen Curry surpasses Michael Jordan for most 30-point games after turning 30

Despite a 124-111 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday, Stephen Curry added another historic milestone to his career. The 37-year-old surpassed Michael Jordan to become the guard with the most 30-point games after turning 30.

Golden State began the game competitively, edging the first quarter 28-27, but struggled over the next two periods. After trailing by seven points in the second quarter, the Warriors allowed the Hawks to stretch the lead to double digits in the third. A late push in the final quarter proved insufficient as Golden State fell to their 19th defeat of the season.

The loss leaves the Warriors eighth in the Western Conference, one win behind the Houston Rockets, having played four more games.

Curry once again led by example, scoring 31 points along with three rebounds and five assists in 33 minutes, the highest total of any player on the court. Jimmy Butler added 30 points in support.

With that performance, Curry moved past Michael Jordan to record his 153rd career 30-point game after the age of 30, the most by any guard in NBA history, according to StatMuse. Remarkably, he has reached the 30-point mark 13 times already this season, including four games of 40 points or more.

At 37, Curry is averaging 28.8 points, 4.6 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 4.7 made three-pointers per game. While his individual form remains elite, Golden State continue to search for consistency around him as they push for their next title.

Speaking after the game, Curry said: “I think every team has belief in themselves until you get smacked in the face. We’ve been smacked in the face a couple times this year, but we’ve bounced back, and a lot of that has to do with Melton, Al and Gui coming in, making huge contributions, and Will finding his way into the rotation.

"So guys who weren’t as available or not available at all early in the year coming in and then that getting us organized with rotations and lineups and our defense has been pretty solid all year. It’s just the offense has come and gone, so those two guys in particular are, the vets are helping tremendously connect certain lineups. And then we’re playing focused basketball, so just gotta keep it going".

The Warriors will continue their road stretch this week, facing the Portland Trail Blazers on 14 January, the New York Knicks on 16 January and the Charlotte Hornets on 18 January.
